Quarterbacking and running game just got better

What a weekend it was for Colorado football as Dan Hawkins and his staff secure a pair of verbals for a position that long needed them -- wide receiver.

Markques Simas and Kendrick Celestine, two talented pass catchers, have decided to wear the black and gold, according to reports from Andrew Friedman at BuffaloSportsNews.net and Adam Munsterteiger at BuffStampede.com.

Simas, long sought after by the Buffs, is ranked as a four-star receiver. He has size at 6-foot-1 and playmaking ability, two things CU needs for its' passing game. Celestine is smaller, listed at 5-foot-11, but the faster of the two players, clocked in the 4.4 range.

If those two prove worthy of seeing the field as freshman, quarterback Bernard Jackson or incoming junior college signal caller Nick Nelson or redshirt freshman Cody Hawkins will have one less excuse not to amp up the passing game.

Some points to remember -- Hawkins is recruiting everywhere this season. Amazing. Drawing verbals from Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, old haunts like Louisiana and re-establishing a strong presence in California. If Hawkins can right the ship on the field he has a chance to become an even bigger force as a recruiter in years to come. The man is one part explorer, another part firefighter, knocking down doors to recruits, and part master salesman, pitching his message of glory.

Word is there are more scholarships to offer. At this point, the Buffs just need more playmakers, regardless of position. CU's success in this current recruiting season has one person, at least, on the edge of his seat, wondering...what's next?
