Black and Gold Intelligence, Patton disgust

It took a long time, had many pacing and others laughing but coach Dan Hawkins finally did it, snagging two verbal commitments from wide receivers.

That big news, and it was big, deserved some digging through files, which brings us to this new feature. Weekly, this publication will bring you some weekly information on a hot topic.

Here is the first Black and Gold Big-12 Intelligence report, courtesy of independent operatives B.G. Brooks (Rocky Mountain News) and Patrick Ridgell (Daily Times-Call), who share their findings.

"They had to have playmaking wide receivers and I think they believe they got them. They filled a need and a need that desperately needed to be filled.

A lot of freshman believe they can come in and make immediate contributions and then they get to school and find things are a lot different than they thought they would be. If they can do it, it would be great but my response to that would be I'll believe it when I see it."

Ridgell

"I think it pushes the class up to that next level. If those two guys get to CU, get on the field, then I think it's exactly what CU's offense is lacking."

Brooks

"I think what Hawk is doing is very impressive considering they were 2-10. It's looking like he's going to have a top-20 class. I think Hawkins is showing he's a fine recruiter."

Ridgell

"So far, very impressed. CU hasn't had a top-25 class over the last three years. Coming off a 2-10 year and having to sell a program like (Hawkins) has done, I think it's been exceptional so far. Now, you don't count signees until the letter of intent's come in on Feb. 7, but this class really looks to be very good, just what they need."

Patton inciting deep disgust

Basketball coach Ricardo Patton should be looking over his shoulder and maybe even sleep with one eye open. Not regarding his job, as it appears athletic director Mike Bohn is going to force Patton to gut it out, but towards the insurgents who wish him gone now and have gone to the effort of creating an online presence towards that end.

Greg Greene was out surfing, in December no less, when he ran into a rebel against the current regime.

"Enjoy your site, thought this might interest you:

Colorado Basketball has never been in worse shape, it is really sad!"

I thought this only happened down South, where a former Florida football coach's
shortcoming's generated a fireronzooknow.com website.

Zook, by the way, now works at Illinois.

Patton, we know, is gone. The pool has started to determine whether he lasts the season.
There might be hope in some corner that he gets this team to play together, tougher and
more disciplined
but there is also a growing faction that wants him driven to the county
line and then
offered the "suggestion" of not coming back, Boulder's own Rambo.
