Leach on starting over, Harrell catching criticism

Mike Leach knows because he's been there.

In 2000, his first season as head coach at Texas Tech, he faced the challenge, although maybe not as great, that Colorado coach Dan Hawkins is enduring right now.

Leach talked about that in an article in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal written by Don Williams. In the story, Leach says being the new guy isn't easy.

"Transition's always hard,'' Leach said. "It's hard on coaches, hard on players, and you try to do a combination of things. You try to build some things, do some things that are going to help you long term, but then you also try to take care of the next play, the next game.''

Point?

You are trying to balance that transformation for the culture of your program with just trying to be competitive and winning this week's game. The two aren't always congruent.

Another similarity is Red Raider quarterback, Graham Harrell, who committed four turnovers in a loss to Missouri last week and felt the wrath of the Texas Tech fans. CU signal caller Bernard Jackson knows that heat all too well.

Of course, Jackson has been living that nightmare each week.
