Ringo & Ridgell at the table talking Buffs

Kyle Ringo and Patrick Ridgell disagree.

Hey, they're two different people and they're allowed to have differing opinions, and they do regarding Dan Hawkins.

Ringo, of the Daily Camera and Ridgell, of the Daily Times-Call check in for this week's Black & Gold Media Roundtable.

BGB: A lost season in many regards. What is CU looking to gain from the final two games?

Ringo: Two wins and some sense that progress has been made and there is hope for the future. Plus, a win over Nebraska is always a big deal no matter when it occurs and what the records of the teams are at the time.

Ridgell: Wins, obviously, would be great. But beyond those, recruiting needs to remains the main emphasis. CU needs to show recruits reasons why they can have success if they come to Boulder. That can be done through efforts on and off the field.

BGB: Does Dan Hawkins miss Boise State or is he really enjoying the challenge of being a program builder, trying to become a national success story?

Ridgell: He's not the type to look back and pine away for the good old days. Of course, he would rather be enjoying the same success he did at Boise State, but I think he truly believes he eventually will build this program to play at that level in the Big 12 Conference. He is very much enjoying this challenge. That's just who he is.

Ringo: Hawkins says he relishes the challenge he's taken on in Boulder. If you were him, what else would you say? I think he sees an end-result that includes his program ranked, contending for a conference title and recruiting against the top schools. It might seem a little distant now, and I think he underestimated the challenge here. But I still think he envisions it.

BGB: Is the defense ready to collapse in the final two games from the weight of the season in which the offense has been substandard or do you expect it to bounce back and be a little more, well, defensive against Iowa State and Nebraska?

Ringo: I'd be surprised if the defense didn't rebound against Iowa State but I wouldn't be shocked to see it picked apart against Nebraska. These guys can't seem to cover people. Allowing a 67 percent completion rate is a joke.

Ridgell: Iowa State was barely holding things together last week and that was before it got blasted at home by Kansas. Still, I think the Cyclones get some of their injured players back -- particularly (Stevie) Hicks and (Todd) Blythe -- they should move the ball well against CU's beleagured and beaten-up defense. If not, CU should be able to enjoy some success.

Right now, the Nebraska game appears to be a mismatch. But with the surprises the series has sprung in recent years, it's difficult to say what'll happen in Lincoln.
