Buffs beat Wildcats this weekend for second win

Colorado will pick up its' second victory of the season this weekend, at home against Kansas State.

So says the College Football News.

The publication has the Buffs winning easily, 26-13, because of the running game and a defense that will force turnovers. Not necessarily pretty to watch, the web site says, but hey, winning is always more attractive than losing with style, as happened down in Athens, Ga.

For those of you interested, CFN also looks into the crystal ball, beer mug or whatever they use over there to predict games and sees Missouri traveling to Lincoln and beating Nebraska, 24-20.

Yeah, thought that might make you smile today.

BREAKING NEWS

Seems some bears broke into a house down Lubbock way, about 3 a.m. one day last week, and when they didn't find food, they took a laptop computer and and Ipod.

O.K., so they weren't really bears. They were Texas Tech defensive players Rashad Hunt, Dimitri Lott and Julius Howard, according to a report in the Topeka Capital-Journal.

So how do those pirates explain what went down to coach Mike Leach once they got released from the pokey?

"Ah, coach, you know how it is, we was just, you know, looking for a snack and well, that computer and Ipod were so nice, man, you know, we just thought it might be good to have.

"Just sackin' and ransackin', Coach, just like defense. You know, not much different than football, really, when you think 'bout it and all."

Buffs stink, just aren't the worst

The Topeka Capital-Journal just ranked the teams in the Big-12 and the Buffaloes of Colorado, brothers and sisters in arms, not seen as the worst of the dregs of the conference.

That distinction goes to Iowa State, which is labled as "arguably the most disappointing team in the country."

Now think about this...Cyclones' coach Dan McCarney has been in Ames for quite some time now, so his poor season has to cause more consternation than the first season for CU's Dan Hawkins. So, hey, it could be worse.

In defense of Bernard Jackson

We all know the plight of Bernard Jackson and the Buffs' offense. Some points to consider today.

B-Jack rotted on the bench until this season. Kansas State freshman Josh Freeman was one of the best quarterback recruits in the country and nine games into the season, he's not faring well either, with one touchdown pass and nine interceptions.

My point?

Playing quarterback is a difficult chore, rough to hit the ground running. Go check Arkansas' Mitch Mustain, who while winning big down in Fayetteville, is hardly looking like a future All-American, this despite being the top-rated prospect at his position coming out of high school.

Tim Tebow, down at Florida, anothe mega-recruit, is playing in spots behind starter Chris Leak but has been limited to mostly tucking the ball and bowling over defenders as another running back, partly because he does it so well and partly because he doesn't have much of a grip on the offense.

Throw in the new offense for Jackson and his entire offense and he was fighting a serious uphill battle.

That said, he has shown little improvement this season. Spring and fall practice will show what coaches need to know, which is, is B-Jack the man to hitch the wagon to.

For now, he's no different than a lot of quarterbacks around college football.
