Patton's farewell party underway

Typical nice start to the season by a Ricardo Patton-coached team.

CU knocks off the University of Denver 78-64.

Hardly impressive.

What was attention getting, however, were certain individual performances.

Richard Roby's 20 points.

Dominique Coleman's 19 points and seven assists. It says here that Coleman is the player to watch this season as a potential breakout addition to Roby's talent. Thinking 14-15 points and four assists a contest.

Jermyl Jackson-Wilson's (picture) 14 points and 17 rebounds makes Patton's predictions that the jumping-jack transfer from Ohio State will be a player look prophetic, at least for a night.

Now for the reality of Buffs' basketball as we know it:

11 of 20 from the foul line

5 of 20 from 3-point range

The Pioneers are hardly going to be a power this season so a 14-point victory is not a barometer of much.

To be fair, a win is a win and the roster is littered with youth and inexperience so only time will determine who CU is, or isn't.

For a night, Roby was Roby, a good thing, Coleman finally showed he might be legitimate and Jackson-Wilson makes one wonder if he can be the rugged baseliner, maybe in a P.J. Tucker mold, that the team needs.
